Last Ditch Crossland Rescues Rovers

Late drama in Thrybergh as Middlewood Rovers score 2 late goals to salvage a point against Thrybergh S.S.C.

Rovers dominated things in the first half, creating a multitude of chances, the biggest coming when winger and top scorer Carter Harrison latched onto a through ball but was unable to guide his shot on target. Thrybergh were gifted a golden opportunity when Connor Crossland brought their striker down in the box, with the ref pointing immediately to the spot. Rovers keeper Ben Asquith guessed the right way but a bizarre turn of events saw a bobble take the ball over his outstretched right hand to give the home side the lead.

A slow start to the second half for the visitors saw the home side grab a second when the ball was fired over to the back stick where an unmarked player fired home to extend Thrybergh's lead.

Rovers left it late in the day but a brilliant free kick from Harrison found the head of striker Harry Sykes flicking the ball over the keepers head with mere minutes to play.

Just as the home side seemed to have won the game another free ick was launched into the box from Harrison, Sturch managed to keep Rovers hopes alive with a header back across the face of the goal and Connor Crossland applied the finishing touch atoning for giving the penalty away to give the visitors a well earned point.
