LJS Cup

Middlewood Rovers are proud to support the LJS Foundation as our Charity Partner. The Luey Jacob Sharp Foundation was set up by professional footballer Billy Sharp and his partner Jade Fair and is a charity raising funds for medical research for Gastroschisis as well as a support network for families affected by Gastroschisis. Set up in January 2012 after the tragic death of their 2 day old son Luey Jacob, Billy & Jade felt that little is known about Gastroschisis. The Foundation will fund pioneering medical research to establish a cause for the condition.

As part of the partnership, every year we host a 40 team tournament over two days in June. The tournament has grown in popularity over the last few years and is now an established part of many local teams pre-season preparation. Run as a friendly cup the tournament is for teams in the U8, U9, U10 & U11age groups.

To express an interest in taking part in the next edition of the LJS Cup, receive further information once it becomes available and to be contacted once registration opens please fill out the form below.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS NOT ENTERING YOU INTO THE TOURNAMENT.

LJS Cup

2016

The 2016 edition of the LJS Cup saw 40 teams from South Yorkshire plus welcome guests from as far afield as Wigan & Leeds spent the weekend at Waverley Lane in a friendly festival of football that had everything from wonder goals & great saves to penalty shootouts and last minute winners.

Despite a biblical downpour requiring the removal of nearly 30,000 litres of water from the pitches to get Sunday's competition underway (see The Sheffield Star's report for pictures and more information) the weekend was a huge success, raising over £3000 for the LJS Foundation's nominated charity, Martins House Childrens Hospice.

On behalf of all the organisers we would like to thank the players, parents & coaches of all the clubs represented for joining us at the tournament and taking part in such a friendly manner, helping to create the best atmosphere at Waverley Lane for many years.

We would also like to thank Sheffield United players Che Adams & George Long for their Trophy presentations, Simon Hall from the Sheffield Referee's Association and his team of young officials for donating their time and expertise, Russ Sheppard of OffTheBench Media for this year's fantastic Tournament Photography, the army of volunteer's (including Billy!) who managed to clear the small lake, man the Cafe, Barbecue, Car Park & Tournament Control and of course Billy, Jade & all their family.

Planning for 2017's tournament is already under way and entry forms will be released before the end of this year - please feel free to contact any of the Middlewood team for more information.

A letter from Billy & Jade

Dear All,

On behalf of my wife Jade & I, we would like to thank you for attending our LJS Cup 2016 last weekend. You all made it an enjoyable and successful weekend for all involved.

It made me so proud to see so many children with smiles of their faces playing football. The effort the parents and coaches made to make sure all the kids attended was outstanding.

As a youngster at Middlewood Rovers JFC, I would look forward to competing in such tournaments and it is with great pleasure to be able to host my own for the third year in a row.

Anyone who would like to order team photos from the tournament can be done from www.offthebenchmedia.com photographer Russ Sheppard.

With your continued support we aim to host another LJS Cup in 2017 and beyond, we hope to see you all there. Entries for next years tournament will be available in the near future.

Best Wishes,

Jade & Billy Sharp
